Causes: - usually due to natural weathering - paints using excessive clay in place of titanium dioxide - interior paints being used for exterior surfaces - over thinning or spreading the paint too thin - using the wrong product Solutions: - remove all of the chalk with a thick bristle brush (wire on masonry) - Then rinse the surface thoroughly with a garden hose with high water pressure - For the best results use a power washer - If some chalk still remains, a chalk binder coat is required - A penetrating primer is important to seal off any remaining chalk - use a high quality exterior paint in the color and sheen of your choice |
